Fabric Trim
I’m starting to use fabric trim in modern updated ways. With many options out there, it’s thinking outside the box that can make furniture and window treatments unique.
Fashion design details are influencing the interior design world. Feathers add drama to the wardrobe this season and why not furniture too?
This black and gold cut velvet fabric would look great upholstered on a straight lined sofa. To bring in the unexpected glamour, I would use a contrasting band of a raw silk along the bottom of a sofa skirt and add in the feather trim accent between the 2 fabrics. How fabulous would that be?
I love this fabric from Robert Allen. The teal blue paired with the metallic gold and bronze are so hot. To top it off, I would love to alternate between 2 trims on the leading edge of a drapery. This would be showstopper in a formal dining room with Gold walls and teal blue upholstered chairs.
Traditional Home’s Design Editor Krissa Rossbund with me at Robert Allen’s Showroom today. We presented new ways to use trim in Interior Design
Tune into my show OverDesigned this Saturday night on TLC at 8:30pm to see how we managed to create a new design for a woman who was addicted to Penguin design style. Yes, Penguin style.

New Favorite Wallpaper
Wallpaper continues to be a hot item in the design world. I absolutely love this new wallpaper by Rinekwall. When you see it in person, you can not tell if it’s the real deal or a very detailed photograph of Moorish tiles. This paper would be perfect in a powder room or any room that you want that ‘wow’ factor. I’ll be installing it in our San Francisco project - can’t wait!

Stunning~!

It’s shown on their site installed in a bedroom

Blue and white is a classic design style. I would use this in an entry with reclaimed wood furniture and bright yellow accessories.

Before and After
On Saturday’s show, Patti was after a resort style design and thought the more Palm Tree decor she brought in, the more resort it would feel. By focusing on the literal use of the Palm Tree to convey a design style, other important elements were ignored in the room.
By re-working the biggest focal point in the room, the new fireplace trimmed in white with a bamboo textured wall treatment, adds a relaxed beach vibe. Bringing in a bright blue was also important to lighten up the atmosphere.
White slipcovers accented with blue and yellow pillows help complete the newly designed room.

OverDesigned
My new show will premiere this Saturday night at 8:30pm on TLC. After completing 52 episodes of reDesign which featured high end design make-overs, I wanted my new show to focus on affordable design ideas with a twist. The big question with the new show is simple; when have you crossed the line with your design style and do you know it?
Here is a sneak peak of the BEFORE of the room that will be featured on this Saturday nights show
Does this look like a resort style to you?

Art
Art can make or break a room’s design. I often find myself painting pieces for my clients because I can not find the right size, color or style. For many people painting your own art sounds like fun, but often turns into an overwhelming project. Because of this, I have partnered with art.com to create some basic pieces that are hand painted and incorporate the simplistic style I gravitate to.
I painted this piece for this room to bring in a sense of warmth and textural interest. Because this painting would work across many interior styles and give any room an instant update, I recreated it for art.com

Back to work on a new project
One of my new projects is in San Francisco designing the interiors of a historical building and a new construction building. The great challenges of my job are working to create a balance between the old and new. You will see a couple of the look boards down below in a previous posting. I thought this would be a fun project to track through my journal so that you can get a taste of my design process. Believe it or not, the install for furniture is not until June 2009 so we have a lot of ground to cover!
Located in the Mission District of San Francisco, this building once housed the manufacturing of sleeping bags for the army during WWII.
