Thursday

Help. Many wonder why it has been a while since my last entry. I’ve been feverishly trying to pull together the design of my new place. It is not easy when you’re your own client. My biggest challenge is re-defining my style. Each time I move, I test my ability to work in a different aesthetic. Check back to see what evolves.

The view of my new living room. With 6 windows in this room, I will need to have a window treatment that softens the space while controling the light. I need over 110 yards of fabric just for these windows. Ouch.

In the dining area, I test out different sizes of chairs (you know how I love using blue tape). I’m leaning toward using the same chair I used in Dennis Hammer’s living room. The Barnstaple Chair by Gerard is killer good lookin (its posted somewhere in the blog archives) I like the antique quality of the red leather upholstery paired with beautiful lines (If I find a photo, I will post it tomorrow)

The view out of my guest room. I have always admired the Capitol Records building. It is one of the 5 iconic buildings I studied my first year of design school (you can also see the Hollywood sign in the background)

Back at the office I try to squeeze in some time to look at fabrics.

Check back soon!

Wednesday - Palm Springs

I decided to head to my favorite place for Thanksgiving, Palm Springs.  I’ll be spending Thanksgiving with family out here enjoying the desert heat.

Also on the agenda - some shopping for my new place.  I have to stop procrastinating - my place has been sitting empty for too long.  Once I get a plan in place I promise to start sharing photos.

I found these great stools at Stewart Galleries www.stewartgalleries.com I like the transitional style of the legs with the suede upholstered seat.

Also at Stewart Galleries, a miniature sofa, perfect for Oliver and Benson.  Now I need to find a sofa for me.

Monday

I started the day at a shoot for the Style Network’s new show, Ultimate Style with Daisy Fuentes and Jai Rodriguez.  You can catch the show this Saturday night (November 17th) on the Style Network at 11pm.  Jai and I discussed the current Noveau Asian design style that is making its way into many stores this season.  Be sure to tune in to hear my thoughts on this trend.

Jai with me at West Elm this morning discussing the power of red in any room.  If you don’t get the Style Network, the show will re-air the following Saturday at 11am on E! Entertainment.

Sunday

Last night I was honored as Grand Marshall for LSU’s Homecoming Game in Baton Rouge.  For as long as I can remember, LSU football games have been a big part of my family’s weekend tradition.

lsu-homecoming-3.JPG Tiger stadium is also known as Death Valley and holds 92,000 people. Since I will not be able to travel back home for Thanksgiving in a few weeks, I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family today.  Thankfully, the turkey is not locked in the oven like last year.  You may remember last Thanksgiving at my house from my journal entry (you can still read it in the blog archives to the right)

Friday - Baton Rouge

I am home visiting my family this weekend and taking part in the LSU homecoming events.

The newest member of our family chilling out on my parent’s sofa.  My dad rescued him from a shelter last week.  We believe he’s 10 weeks old and a lab / boxer mix.  How can you not love that face?  Help us with a name - we’re tossing around Dink, Franklin & Duke.

As the fan club members have already heard, I’ve been taping a new show concept this week.  As things develop I’ll let you know.

Stay tuned…

Friday

Last night I attended a party at the Thomas Lavin Showroom www.thomaslavin.com with my new design consultant Peter Jacob.  Thomas’ showroom in the Pacific Design Center is one of my favorite sources for furniture, lighting and accessories.  The highlight was the ‘Romona’ cocktail named after the infamous Romona (my salesperson) which was garnished with jalapeno’s.
