Kenneth, I really admire your work! I am passionate about home design and am very interested in becoming a home stager. To my knowledge there are no industry standards or official accredited programs. What courses or programs do you suggest I complete to be recognized as a professional home stager?
Hi Leslie - Check out ISRP - Intertnational Staging and Redesign Professionals
There is also a website that offers training http://www.qcdesignschool.com/qcdesign/homestaging.asp
However, the best way to build a business is by going direclty to the source of work, Real Estate Agents. I would use your own home as an example of your talents. With your camera, document some before and after shots of rooms in your home that represent your work. Make an inexpensiver flyer and deliver to all the agents intown. I’d also consider offering a referrel fee to the agents that bring you work. Nothing helps to build a business better than referrals and word of mouth!

Great work. Love your designs. One question though - what colour decor (couch/ curtains etc)goes best with a room painted in a somewhat deep peach colour. The floor is tiled white by the way
Suzanne - I would recommend you first find an area rug to cover part of the white tiled floor. By doing this first, you establish a color palette while helping to define your furniture arrangment. Depending on your style, you could bring in an oushak rug for an antiqued look or a more modern wool rug. The great thing is that the rug would give you a palette that ties your wall color to your upholstery and draperies. Don’t be afraid to bring in a patterned fabric on smaller chairs while keeping solid fabric on the bigger pieces like a sofa. I’m seeing dark greens and light blues in your future! Hope this helps- send me a pic when you’re done

Hi Kenneth,
I absolutely love the breakfast room at the Hammer residence (from your July 2008 journal). Could you tell me where you purchased the trestle table in the photograph?
Thanks!
Amy (fellow LSU alum)
This table comes from one of my favorite Los Angeles stores called Out of Asia. Check out their stuff www.outofasia.com
I love mixing in an Asian element to any interior - the sense of modern zen is a hot look

I recently purchased a condo in a highrise with a wonderful view of the skyline and looking for ideas for decorating. First on my list is paint color combinations throughout. It is a small two bedroom, and i am more of a traditionalist and like warm inviting rooms that focus on relaxing and a bit of romance. The kitchen looks straight into the living room and onto the balcony where the skyline can be viewed. Any suggestions? It currently has a mirrowed backspash which a lot of people dislike but I love and wld like to keep, but I do hope to put in granite countertops if i can decide on the color. Cabinets and appliances are currently white. I wld appreciate any input.
Look at Sherwin Williams Relaxed Khaki for a good basic color - and don’t be afraid to go a little darker in smaller rooms like a powder room!
