    Question:
When having to remodel several(4 baths) in a home, is it important to keep some continuity going with flooring, cabinetry, hardware(faucets) etc. or can you/should you treat each bathroom as its own space?  Dont’ know where to begin on this one. Quite overwhelming!!!!

    Answer:
We’re used to seeing the same materials used in every bathroom because that is the easiest and less expensive route for builders.  That is not they way it should be done.  I always treat each bathroom individually.  Having said that, remember to tie them together with an underlying style direction.  For example, if your home is French Country, do not do one bathroom ultra modern, one Tuscan, one British Colonial etc.  The best way to keep a style direction is through the use of color.  Pick a color palette that you like and vary the materials from bath to bath.

    Question:
Hi, Kenneth, I really admire your work & I’m addicted checking your journal.  It is so creative & informative.  I am wondering if there is paint color that is “in” for kitchens?
Also, do you have any plans to come to Chicago? - Leticia

    Answer:
At the moment I do not have any plans to come to Chicago, although I was there 3 weeks ago.  Currently the hot cabinet color for kitchens is black with distressing.  For wall color, the best route is to work off of your cabinet color.  If you have lighter cabinets look at darker wall colors and vice versa.  My favorite wall color at the moment is Sherwin Williams Portico 7548.

    Question:
Kenneth, your taste is my favorite of all the designers on HGTV! My husband and I are decorating our 1960s South Florida ranch house inside and out. I have two questions: Is it OK to use the same color for exterior of house and public interior rooms? And, is gray acceptable for a living space? We are leaning toward a soft, cooler gray (unselected as yet), but we’ve been told that only warm colors should be in living spaces-? Our interior floors are Brazilian Koa.

    Answer:
I would not recommend you use the same color inside as outside.  You can use the same color, just not the same shade - go darker on the interior.  Gray is acceptable for living spaces - there are plenty of warm grays.

    Question:
Dear Kenneth, I currently have an old aluminum exterior patio slide door.  It leaks heavily in the winter.  Homedepot weather strips did not help.  I am looking into a replacement of the patio door which is appropriated for this sort of weather, robustness and above of all “affortable”.  Would you recommend Jeld-Wen IWP folding door system or Andersen (200 or 400 series) or Pella (Proline)?  The door is between my porch and my dinning room.  The porch is brown.  The dinning room floor is light oak.  The curtains are base color. The walls are blue gray. The dinning table and chairs are cherry.  Should I choose cherry or oak for the frame and doors or white vynyl door and frame?  What is your recommendation?  My home is 30 years old and I would like to keep changes with subtlety.  Thank you. carl

    Answer:
When selecting the finish for your exterior doors and windows, the key is
consistency from the exterior.  Depending on what the rest of your home’s
windows and doors look like from the outside, I would suggest you match
them.  As for the brand - they’re all good brands.

    Question:
The choice of colors for the dining/library shelves look great --- would you share the color names and brand of paint?  Also, would you please share all the paint colors when you are finished? Any news on when your book is going to be released?

    Answer:
The book question keeps coming up - I am meeting with my new book agent in a
few weeks so I should get an answer on that soon!  The good thing is that
with all the delays comes more insight I can add in!

The color of my dining / library shelves is Sw 6159 high tea.  I plan to use
a wallcovering on all the other walls - so I’ll share that with you.
